Factors Influencing Wheat Yield and Variability: Evidence from Manitoba, Canada
Production functions to explain regional wheat yields have not been studied extensively in the Canadian prairies. The objective of this study is to employ a Just-Pope production function to examine the relationship between fertilizer inputs, soil quality, biodiversity indicators, cultivars qualifying for Plant Breeders’ Rights (PBR), and climatic conditions on the mean and variance of spring wh...
متن کاملFactors influencing H1N1 vaccine behavior among Manitoba Metis in Canada: a qualitative study
BACKGROUND During the first wave of the H1N1 influenza pandemic in 2009, Aboriginal populations in Canada experienced disproportionate rates of infection, particularly in the province of Manitoba. To protect those thought to be most at-risk, health authorities in Manitoba listed all Aboriginal people, including Metis, among those able to receive priority access to the novel vaccine when it firs...
متن کاملEffects of Phosphorus and Copper on Factors Influencing Nutrient Uptake, Photosynthesis, and Grain Yield of Wheat
Application of large amounts of phosphorus fertilizers is used to enhance early plant growth and yield of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). This practice can lead to an accumulation of phosphorus in soil and a reduced copper uptake by plants which may result in a reduction of plastocyanin concentrations in chloroplasts. As a result, photosynthetic rates and crop yield can be adversely affected. Whi...
متن کاملAutogenous-anautogenous oviposition in Culiseta inornata from Manitoba, Canada.
Culiseta inornata females, provided with sucrose and deprived of blood, laid a mean of 30.2 +/- 0.9 eggs in the first gonotrophic cycle. Twenty-three percent of these eggs hatched and developed to pupae. Females that were bloodfed after the first cycle completed an additional 1-4 cycles.
متن کاملFactors influencing the fermentation process and ethanol yield
The factors which influence ethanol yield are: the quantity of fermenting sugars from raw material, the heating temperature of the mashes, the fermentation time, the distillation parameters. Out of the already-mentioned factors, the heating temperature of the mashes and the fermentation time have been studied. From the analyzed data it has been found that the highest percentage of alcohol can b...
